I have to admit that I have spent a lot of my life worrying. Worrying about what I have to do tomorrow. Worrying about what I did or didn’t do yesterday.
After many, many years of worrying I have come to a very simple conclusion—worrying gets you nowhere. At the very best, worrying stops you from enjoying today. At the worst, worrying leads to ulcers, stress, and lots of other bad things. Worrying is like a cancer that grows and crowds out everything good in your life if you let it advance unchecked.
“Can any of you by worrying add a single hour to your span of life?” Luke 12:25
So, how to stop worrying? Simply “let go, let God.” I know, easy to say but hard to do. However, I am the guy who has come to learn that life was meant to be so simple. We’re the ones who complicate it. Part of my “no worry” plan is simply to take one day at a time. Don’t get me wrong—I’m a big planner. But planning is not about worrying. In fact, if you plan what needs to be done, then why worry?
How to stop worrying? Start by asking God for help. Lay your worries on him and admit that you need help. It’s that simple. Don’t complicate it. And don’t let doubt get in the way.
“Come to me, all that are weary and are carrying heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.” Matthew 11:28
Yesterday is over and, except from learning from your mistakes, it is history. How you handle today will shape tomorrow. Let go, let God. Give it a real try and I guarantee God will help take the worries away.
Enjoy today for what it is—another glorious day on a journey with/to God. What you put into today will determine what you get out tomorrow. Start by throwing your worrying to the wind.
