Maybe I’m the exception but I live a lot of my life in the past or the future. I spend a lot of time thinking about what I did or did not do yesterday—or what I need to do tomorrow. I’m realizing that I spend so little time in the present, living in and enjoying the moment.
With God there is only the present. Anything we did wrong is erased with God when we acknowledge our sins and believe in our hearts that Jesus Christ died for those sins. Like it or not, the mistakes we have made in the past have now shaped who we are today. God also gives us abundant hope but that hope is not defined as tomorrow—it’s for today.
Dwelling in the past is an anchor on our lives. Living for the future ignores the glory that God has built into today. I think that heaven is an eternity of the present—there is no past or future. There is only today. I don’t know about you but that sounds pretty good. But why wait for heaven (and live for the future!). You can start your own heaven on earth by living more in the present.
This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it. Psalm 118:24
Underscore that THIS—not yesterday or tomorrow—is the day. So, live in the present today and rejoice and be glad!
