Your Terms or the Spirit’s?

I had a real wake-up call the other day when I read Galatians 5:22 about the nine fruits of the Spirit: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. I flunked!

I was in a rush the other day and got caught behind someone barely doing the speed limit. I lost my patience big time. In fact, as I passed the person and stared at her there wasn’t much love, joy, peace, kindness, gentleness, or self-control to be found. Amazing, but as I looked back on the past week I let the stress in my life rule how I was living. I was living by me, and what life was throwing at me, and not by the Spirit. Pretty sorry case for someone who pontificates on the Real Secrets to Life and living your life by them. But then again, and as I say all the time, I am not perfect. It’s just that thinking about the fruits of the Spirit stopped me dead in my tracks.

So, my goal this week is to look back each day and think about the nine fruits of the Spirit and if I am manifesting them during the day. If not, I’m still living on my terms and I know that’s a dead end.

The great thing about the Real Secrets to Life is that if you really live by them then you will manifest the fruits of the Spirit. You can’t help it. That’s why I need to make sure I do more practicing what I preach.

An interesting exercise is to think about the nine fruits and assess whether you are exhibiting them during the day. I believe you get there by focusing on the seven simple Secrets to Life—LISTEN, READ, LOVE, FIGHT, BELIEVE, LIVE & PRAY. Living according to them and letting the Spirit into your life will produce fruit—love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.

Have a fruitful day!
