The little red devils trick-or-treating may be gone but the real devil is still around. He’s very much at work in this world but he doesn’t go announcing himself door to door. In fact, he doesn’t want anyone to know that he really exists because he does his best work totally unnoticed.
If you’re like me, you have big doubts about the existence of Satan, Lucifer, demon, devil, or whatever you want to call it. It’s a bit surreal to think about some evil being that is a real presence in the world. In fact, the devil is a master at putting doubt in our heads, doubt that he and God both exist. That’s because if you doubt the reality of God the devil wins.
I know this is tough stuff to think about. Believe me; how do you think I feel writing it? But the devil is real, very much at work in this world. He spreads doubt and lies, and will do anything to keep you believing and trusting in God. He wins if you only worship this world and the “things” in it and become more self-centric.
There’s no need to fear the devil, or his evil. The only thing we should fear is ourselves and not doing the right thing. We need to keep God at the center of our lives and everything else flows from there. We need to walk in love, thinking of others before ourselves. That’s the way to keep the devil out of your life. We need to FIGHT the devil and temptation at every turn. Again, we can do that easily by turning our thoughts outward to others and not inward to ourselves.
I don’t live life focused on the devil. I try to live it focused on God. Again, I don’t have any halo on my head. I simply put one foot in front of the other, just like everyone else. I just know that evil has a real presence in this world; it doesn’t take much to understand that. Look around you.
