Who comes first? Simple question. I do a lot of writing about God but I find myself asking who really does come first in my life. The answer should also be simple but it is tough if we are really honest with ourselves. The problem is the answer gets complicated just like we contemplate our lives. That’s because the answer is not simple. What???
The answer should be God—He comes first in our lives. But if we are really honest with ourselves the answer is not clear. I say that I try to put God always first in my life but, to be totally honest, I come first a lot of the time and God is second fiddle. That’s base human nature—we tend to want to satisfy ourselves, however that satisfaction may come.
When we put God first everything in life tends to flow, and flow naturally. That means not just talking a good game about God, but walking with God. He showed us how to walk life in the footsteps of His Only Son, Jesus. And Jesus told us and showed us enough about how to live life to live a few lives. Jesus had a simple message—live life in LOVE and end life in LOVE. Everything else flows from there.
We complicate our lives because we put ourselves first most if not all of the time. We are complicated beings who tend to get lost when we follow ourselves. But God is simple. He is LOVE. When we follow God, life uncomplicates and life becomes so much simpler.
We make this the season to complicate. We stress ourselves out and get lost in the decorations. Make this the season to uncomplicate. Simply put God first. Do that by walking in LOVE. Start the walk with a smile and do some good things along the way. Help someone else instead of yourself. Truly put God first in your life. Seems overly simplistic? It is. That’s the message.
Have a GREAT day!
