I love this proverb from the Bible…
The human mind plans the way, but the Lord directs the steps. Proverbs 16:9
God gives us free will; we are not puppets performing at the end of his strings. We plan, plot, and project our future but it is God navigating—at least when we let him. I know this sounds at odds—we plan but God directs. So, where is the free will in all that?
God has a straight path for each of us to him. The way is the special, unique life purpose that God has for each one of us. One of the Secrets to Life is LISTENing for/to God to understand that purpose. If we don’t LISTEN we will never understand that purpose and we can’t plan our way to realizing that purpose. If we LISTEN, we will hear God directing our steps and the way we plan will be along the path God is directing.
This may seem a bit convoluted but it is actually very simple—simple as life should be. LISTEN for/to God, understand your life’s direction, lay down your life’s path, and let God direct you to keep you on that path. You have the free will to do this or simply ignore it. But I find people who ignore it are the ones searching for the right path in life but never finding it. They hit a lot of dead ends.
