Who’s More or Less Important Than You?

Is Warren Buffet more important than you? Is the homeless person you passed on the sidewalk less important than you? If the criteria for “importance” is money, status, etc., the instinctive answers may be “yes” to both questions. For God the answers to both are an emphatic “no.”

God shows no partiality. Romans 2:11 This says it all!

God loves each of us equally and unconditionally. That simply means that everyone is totally equal in the eyes of God and he puts not conditions on his love. God doesn’t look at any outside appearances as we do; he drills right into our hearts.

Do not look on his appearance or on the height of his stature, because I have rejected him; for the Lord does not see as mortals see; they look on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart. 1 Samuel 16:7

Want to gauge how really in touch with God you are in your life? Test your own heart to honestly examine how you feel about people around you. It’s pretty simple—if you look at people as equals, you’re close to God. If you look down on others, or look up to others because of what they have, you are moving in the wrong direction. I’m not judging in writing this; just observing and challenging, starting with me. Truth be known, I struggle with this all the time.

Humble yourselves before God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Come close to God, and God will come close to you. James 4:7

Look around you today at others and test your heart.

  1. What jumped out at me after writing this (I now added) was this — God shows no partiality. Romans 2:11. Simple is always the best and this says it all!
