God Made You to Be You!

My brother talks about people not feeling comfortable in their own skin. A lot of people obviously, and very literally, don’t feel comfortable in their own skin judging by the popularity of cosmetic dermatology. But I’m talking about the inner us being comfortable in our own inner “skin” that makes you you and me me. God loves you the way He made you. You need to love you the way He made you.

In some way, we all want to be better and, many times, be someone else. I think one of the keys to life—especially a life filled with abundant joy, peace, and fulfillment—is simply being you. That doesn’t mean not trying to be better, lose some weight, or make a better appearance, but simply being you (or me, in my case). It’s about feeling comfortable in our own sin.

The problem is we often don’t know, or lose sight of, who we are—who God made. We’re into ourselves in an egocentric or selfish way but not really in touch with who we are and who we should be according to God. As I write all the time, we all have a God-given, special, unique purpose in life, but that purpose is often unknown. So, it’s tough to be comfortable with who we are if we don’t know what we are or should be doing in life.

I know this sounds a bit jumbled and lofty. So, let me bring it down to earth. Get in touch with yourself—your true, inner self. Start by taking a look in the mirror and embrace yourself. Literally, give yourself a hug! Spend some quiet time getting in touch with you. But, and most importantly of all, spend some time with God. LISTEN for/to God. The best way to get in touch with yourself is to get in touch with God. He knows you better than you will ever know yourself. And He made you to simply be you!

Have a GREAT day!
