No one is perfect, but if you want to look into the eyes of true Christians start with the victims, families, and friends of the “Charleston Nine” from the Emanuel AME Church. The victims are said to have forgiven their killer before he shot them. The families have extended that forgiveness. They have taken God’s command to LOVE to heart. They are true profiles in courage. They are true grace under fire.
A hate crime is despicable enough. Combing that with a shooting in a church takes it to another level. It’s a time when we ask God how can you let this happen. It’s a time that tests our faith that there even is a God. But it’s a time when God is watching who reacts and how. And Charleston is a picture of Christian faith.
None of us are perfect. We are all sinners to one degree or another. We screw up. But if those of us who are Christians keep coming back to our roots we can make the world a better place, regardless of the crime. And the root of Christianity is the very name—Jesus Christ. Jesus who was given to us by God the Father to live that one command: LOVE!
Jesus gave His life to make us better. We should be constantly learning from Him. Hopefully, the Charleston Nine, those brave people, and their families and friends, can teach us as well.
LOVE. Grace under fire. Think about those today as you walk down your own life path.
