There is a devil whispering in your ear, including mine—including us all. The problem is that devil is real, not little, and not like some cute child dressed up for Halloween. If we listen to the devil we will hear him. If we give in to his temptation we will slide way off the straight path of life and end up in a dead end—or worse. That’s why we have to FIGHT the devil every day. And as I have written many times, the way we FIGHT is to simply get closer to God.
The vast majority of us don’t like to talk about the devil. It’s OK for some for the movies but thinking about the devil as real is generally an uncomfortable discussion that is avoided. But the devil is very real and the first step in the FIGHT is to simply acknowledge that fact. If we are aware we can FIGHT. Unlike the movies, the devil can’t throw us around or make us do anything we don’t want to do. The devil simply stays behind the scene and whispers, throwing in a lie here and there.
Move closer to God and you FIGHT the devil. It’s that simple. Once again, God means life to be so very simple. The Secrets to Life have so helped me put life into perspective and move closer to God. And they are so simple—LISTEN, READ, LOVE, FIGHT, BELIEVE, LIVE, and PRAY.
Discipline yourselves, keep alert. Like a roaring lion your adversary the devil prowls around, looking for someone to devour. Resist him, steadfast in your faith, for you know that your brothers and sisters in all the world are undergoing the same suffering. 1 Peter 5:8-9
