I’m reading a book, Imagine Heaven: Near-Death Experiences, God’s Promise, And The Exhilarating Future That Awaits You (John Burke), that gives some common, exciting visions of heaven from people purporting to have been there near death. Although God’s promise is there is an eternity, and heaven is one side of that eternity, there is a heaven on earth in each of us. We just need to find it inside of us and this life becomes heaven, regardless of its twists and turns. And find that heaven inside of you and the eternity of heaven is a sure thing.
I don’t dwell on the afterlife. I read some interesting things about John Burke’s book and decided to pick it up. However, I read it knowing that I don’t have to die, or have a near-death experience, to find heaven. I have felt it inside of me in those moments where I am close to God, comfortable in my own skin, and treating everyone around me with love and as another child of God. I have to admit that those moments are farer and fewer that I would like but they happen. And when they do I get glimpses of the peace and oneness that people describe as heaven.
Even writing this I know it sounds “other worldly.” But it’s all about this world. Jesus tells us that he came to give us not just life, but abundant life lived to the fullest (John 10:10). We can try to go “outside” of us, making all the money we can, buying things left and right, and pleasing our bodies to no end but I guarantee that will lead to dead ends. Go “inside” of you to find the real you, move closer to God, let His love flow through you to others, and you will find heaven on earth—and, eventually, the eternity of heaven.
How to find heaven inside of you? My approach is the 7 Real Secrets to Life I have found—LISTEN, READ, LOVE, FIGHT, BELIEVE, LIVE & PRAY. The more I try to live my life by those 7 very simple words the more I experience those moments when I find heaven inside of me. The winds may swirl around me, and the seas get really rough, but the ship stays steady inside. I am very, very far from perfect but like all of us I have my moments. And the best moments are living heaven.
Find your heaven on earth! It’s there and waiting for you!
