“What are you looking for?” Jesus asks the two disciples who were following him (John 1:38). What a profound question to ask yourself. What are you looking for in life? What’s important; what’s not? A very simple Bible verse that packs a real punch if you really sit down and ponder it. That’s the thing about the Bible, which can seem old, stale, and complicated at times: The simplest is the most profound!
God is love (1 John 4:16). I mean, what can be simpler than this verse—God is love. If you really think about it, this verse sums up the very essence of God—He is love. And given that God is perfect—we wouldn’t be around if He is flawed in any way—God is perfect love. So, if you believe in God, you believe in perfect, unconditional love, which is exactly how you should be living your life.
And it gets better. Love never ends (1 Corinthians 13:8). Because God never ends. So, our path to eternity with God is love. And love better start on this earth because we’ll never find the path to heaven if we don’t walk in love on this earth.
