Well, that is exactly what God has given us in the Bible.
Many people have a Bible but very few people use it to reflect on their lives, much less simply read it on occasion. Reading the Bible on a regular basis will change your life forever. Any questions you have about life will be answered. All you have to do is pick up the Bible and read. The old “trust me” again. You have nothing to lose but a little investment of time.
This is the 2nd Secret to Life: read the Bible because it is God’s Handbook on Life for us. It is a well-kept secret, even though the Bible is the most printed book of all time. In fact, it may be the most printed but least read book of all time. Bibles are great dust collectors.
The amazing thing about the Bible is that it is a book for both beginners and experts. Anyone can understand the basic messages in the Bible. At the same time, there is a lifetime of study for anyone who wants to parse every word and situation. The Bible is a bit like an onion, with layer upon layer that reveals more as you get more into it. However, the important thing is that the Bible is for everyone from the start. It is not a technical manual that requires an expert to decipher. It is your handbook. Open it today.
My life changed that fateful night I picked up the Bible. No, there was no thunder and lightening the first time I started reading the Bible that night. In fact, when I started reading the Old Testament I was shocked at all of the deceit, war, and sex. Although not as graphic, it sounded like something out of the nightly news. I was expecting holy and alleluias and what I got was Lot’s nakedness and David lusting after another man’s wife.
Even though I had probably heard a good chunk of the Bible at church over all of the Sundays of my life, I really never heard anything at all. Nothing sunk in because I had no context. I looked at the Bible as stories about a time long gone, with little to no relevance in my life. The last thing that I looked at the Bible as was a handbook on my life. If you don’t read it, and don’t give it a chance, it will never have any meaning in your life.
It took a little time for me to really get into the Bible. I speed-read but I found out that the Bible is not made for speed-reading. It is made for contemplation and reflection. That’s tough in our hustle and bustle lives where we live for summaries and sound bites. I found out that the Bible is a much different kind of book. The Bible is not a one-hit wonder. It is a best seller for a lifetime of reading.
Read the Bible and live your life by it. It will change your life. It will lead you further down that road to being happier, more at peace, and fulfilled in your life.
You have been born anew, not of perishable but of imperishable seed, through the living and enduring word of God. 1 Peter 1:23
Trust me and open up a Bible today. What do you have to lose by giving it a read?
