Calling he is. You just have to listen. You will hear if you listen.
Look around you and you will actually “see” God calling you. Open your eyes to God. If you look for him, you will find God in every person and situation around you. You will find him in the news headlines. The problem is that we don’t really open up our eyes to recognize God in others and the world around us.
While they were talking and discussing, Jesus himself came near and went with them, but their eyes were kept from recognizing him. Luke 24:15-16
God is in everything. We simply don’t open up our ears to hear and eyes to see him in our lives. We let the roar and glare of the world shout and blind him out. We don’t speak to him and get up and follow him in our lives. There’s a reason why Jesus spent so much time healing the mute, blind, and lame. We may not be physically mute, blind, or lame, but most of us are soulfully mute, blind, and lame.
“I came into this world for judgment so that those who do not see may see, and those who do see may become blind.” John 9:39
Before I heard God’s call, and understood that he was all around me, I was blind to him. As they say, “Out of sight, out of mind.” With me you could have reversed that—“Out of mind, out of sight.” I say that because I did not think about God, except maybe for a few minutes on the weekend as I went through the paces of going to church. At best, God was for those few minutes on Sunday when my mind was not wondering off at church thinking about my golf game or all the work I had to do that day.
Now that I have heard God’s call in my life I see him all around me—in people, places, and things. Don’t get me wrong—the heavens have not revealed themselves and I don’t walk around shouting, “Alleluia!” I am simply more aware of the presence of God around me. I find God in more situations in my life. God will pop up in more ways than you can imagine when you are aware of his presence in your life.
What you have waiting for you when you realize that God is calling you and answer the call is a better understanding of purpose in your life. God has plans for each one of us for a life that is happier, more at peace, and more fulfilled than we ever thought possible.
For surely I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord, plans for your welfare and not for harm, to give you a future with hope. Jeremiah 29:11
If you want to hear God, you simply need to take the time to listen. You can’t possibly hear God if you don’t give him some time. So, why not make time each day. Stop your busy world and open up your ears, mind, and heart to God. He has a special purpose for you if you only will LISTEN!
