The two disciples on the road to Emmaus were all caught up in conversation about Jesus. But when Jesus walked up to join them they didn’t even recognize him.
Their eyes were kept from recognizing him. Luke 24:16
Why? They were too busy talking about Jesus to even see Jesus in the risen Jesus.
There are a lot—and I mean a lot—of Christians who can’t stop talking and pontificating about Jesus. But they fail to see Jesus around them, starting in the faces of others. They are so busy taking the moral high ground and looking down on others that they’re doing anything but following Jesus. They’re “Christians” in name only to themselves.
If you are a true CHRIST-ian you need to see Jesus Christ. He’s living in everyone, not just some. God made us all, not just some, and sent his only Son, Jesus Christ, to save all of us, not just some. If you really are a follower of Jesus you don’t just talk about Jesus, you see him in others. But we can’t recognize Jesus in others if we don’t LOVE all others, not just some. Jesus commanded us to LOVE as he loved. If we really are living in love we will recognize Jesus in others, not matter what they do. Remember—Jesus told us not to judge but to first look at our own failings. Take the log out of your eye before you worry about the speck in someone else’s eye. And if you need a refresher, read Luke 6:27-42.
This is actually pretty simple stuff. And it’s not “religious” stuff. It’s how to LIVE your life. Walk in love and look for Jesus in others. You will recognize him!
