When we hit dark periods in our life it often gets darker before we see any light. In this season think back to Mary and Joseph fleeing the country with a baby on the way and then finding no place to deliver except in a barn. It had to get really dark for them before the brightest star in the night shone its light on them and the infant Jesus.
When things get bad in our lives we sometimes make them worse by looking into the darkness rather than looking for the light. It’s faith that pushed Mary and Joseph and it was faith that kept them going—even when the darkness got darker. Faith drove them towards the light and the rest is history.
When things get dark in our lives we need to go deeper into faith to find the light—rather than muddle through the darkness. There is always—and I mean ALWAYS—a light in our lives. That light is Jesus. He came into the world in light and bathes us in light, if we just turn towards him.
I know that this can sound canned and so much “religious” mumbo jumbo. But it’s true. Jesus is always there in shining light. We just need to turn towards him, rather than turning away from him.
Turn, baby, turn! It may be dark and getting darker but there is a blinding light in your life if you just turn towards it. That light, especially this joyous season, is Jesus.
