Repeat after me, “No one can steal my joy—only I can do that.” There is no friend, co-worker, family member, boss, etc. who can steal your joy in life. No one! Only YOU can steal your joy.
We spend a lot of time reacting to what other people do to us and say about us. We let people get under our skin. But shame on us if we let people sap our joy. We can’t control what people do or say—we can only control what we do or say. The only one who can steal your joy is you. I can’t repeat this enough.
I have a family situation that is rubbing me the wrong way right now. And I can feel my joy slowly being sapped. That’s wrong. I’m letting other people’s actions dictate my feelings when only I should be dictating my feelings.
I know it’s tough when people rub you the wrong way. But they can’t steal your joy and shame on you if you let them. God created each one of us for joy. Sometimes, it’s locked inside of us because we let all the “surface” joy be wiped away by the world around us. If you reach deep inside and look for God in your life you will find your joy. I know that sounds too conceptual and simple, but it is that simple. If you lost your joy by you letting go of it, find God in your life and you will find your joy. God is right there inside of you. You just have to turn towards him, not away from him.
Don’t let anyone or any situation rob you of your God-given joy!
