I don’t live life obsessed with the devil. But I also don’t live it ignoring, or not believing, that the devil is for real. Open your eyes and see that evil is across the globe, a daily reality of life. And those whispers in your ear, especially the ones of doubt telling what you can’t do, are not from God. Get over it—the devil is real, alive in the world. Deal with it by acknowledging the reality and staying close to God, listening for/to him.
Many people wince or roll their eyes when you talk about Satan as a real being. There is more comfort in relegating the devil to Halloween and horror movies. The reality that demons are out and about is too creepy. But they are real, spreading lies, and making you doubt everything from their reality to your potential in life.
Satan doesn’t like to be out in front. His best position is behind the scenes whispering and manipulating. Nothing negative comes from God—everything negative comes from Satan. You’re way ahead of the game if you understand that fact.
Discipline yourselves, keep alert. Like a roaring lion your adversary the devil prowls around, looking for someone to devour. Resist him, steadfast in your faith, for you know that your brothers and sisters in all the world are undergoing the same suffering.1 Peter 5:8-9
Get close to God and you’re in a great position. Pray and ask for help from Jesus to drown out the whispers of doubt you hear. Jesus heard the same whispers and faced temptation just as we do daily. He can help you fight back the doubts and temptations as he did on this earth over 2,000 years ago. Just call Jesus into your life and ask for help.
Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. James 4:7-8
Nothing about this is meant to be scary, difficult, or complex. God means life to be so very simple. The devil is real and very much at work in the world. Stay close to God and there is nothing to fear at all.
