“No time like the present” tells us to get things done now and don’t put them off till tomorrow. Because tomorrow we may regret not getting things done yesterday, when it was the present. We get so trapped in time, worrying about what can/will happen tomorrow and what we should have done in the past, that we have so little time for the present. Not living for today, and stopping to enjoy the moment, is why so many people are unhappy, unfulfilled, and not at peace with themselves. Take a lesson from God: He only lives in the present.
“Heaven” is a complete lack of time. We are so defined and obsessed with time that we can’t imagine just living in the present. But with God, the definition of “heaven,” there is no time. Just now. Imagine savoring the present for eternity. No future to worry about, or past to dwell on, just now. That’s heaven!
As long as we are in this life we can’t escape time. But we can stop during our busy days and just savor the moments. And if you spend some quality time with God you will savor the moments even more. You’ll get a taste about what an eternity with God is really like. It’s tough to think of time standing still but that’s what an eternity with God is about.
Not to drag you down in any way but I believe hell is constantly living in the past of what should have been, what you should have done. It’s that agony that is the real “fire” of hell.
Take a moment today—in fact, take several moments—to just live in the moment, shutting time out. LISTEN for/to God and spend some quality time with Him.
