A leader puts the cause, group, or organization above him/herself. A leader sacrifices their own needs, wants, interests to further those of others. There is no “I” in “leader” for the same reason there is no “I” in “team.” A true leader is totally selfless, not selfish. And there is no better role model of what a leader is than Jesus Christ.
Jesus taught humility, a key trait of a real leader. When the people tried to anoint him as king, he slipped away. Even when they praised him with palms, he was riding on an ass on the way to his eventual sacrifice—His life. His only concern in life was people, above even HIs own life.
We live in a world with few real leaders in the public arena. Most are just a bunch of self-serving and egotistical individuals with a capital “I” because their focus is on themselves. That’s why our world seems to be spinning out of control. The only common good is the individual good.
I don’t care what you do in life at home or at work but everyone can, and should be, a leader. It’s about thinking of others first, setting a good example, and being humble. And there is no better lead than Jesus, our model of perfect leadership.
