As I have said/written thousands of times, God means life to be so very simple. We are the ones who complicate it. Like a closet or basement, we accumulate “junk” that we don’t use but that crowds out useful living space. Rather than periodically go through our closets and throw out—or better yet, donate—what we don’t use we accumulate stuff. Well, that’s exactly what we do in our minds. What should be so simple we complicate.
God doesn’t mean life to be complicated. He means it to be so very, very simple. God sent his only Son to show us “the way, and the truth, and the life” (John 14:6). Jesus came so that we “may have life and have it abundantly” (John 10:10). Abundantly. Not a little or a lot, but ABUNDANTLY. You can’t have or live an abundant life if you have a mind and heart cluttered with all types of junk.
Jesus didn’t burden us with a lot of rules. He gave us one command that echoes what God penned on two tablets years ago—LOVE! There is a reason that love does conquer all. When you start living in love you start uncomplicating your life. It’s like having a cleaning weekend when you throw (or donate!) out all the stuff that you don’t use or wear anymore. If you have ever done that you know the satisfying feeling you get. It’s like the air was cleared in front of you and a burden is lifted off your shoulders. You feel refreshed.
Start living in love and I guarantee your life will feel differently. Things will get simpler and life will be happier, more fulfilling, and peaceful. I know this sounds oh so easy. But that’s exactly the point—it is easy! Because that’s the way God means life to be.
I love the words of that noted philosopher Pogo—“We have met the enemy and he is us.”
Don’t be your own enemy in complicating your life. Get out of your own way. LOVE and you will feel the complications fade away. They will become a distant memory like that old sweater you finally parted with because it only added to the clutter.
Have a love-filled, simple day!
