I have written about this just recently but am shocked at how little forgiveness there is in the world today. In fact, pointing fingers and seeking vengeance is the norm. So, how can any Christian pray the Lord’s prayer as Jesus taught us—”Forgive us as we forgive others”—and not forgive? Worse yet, how can any Christian go on the offensive at getting back or even with someone? The answers? They are not a follower of Jesus. No matter what they may call themselves, they are not a Christian. A Christian follows Jesus Christ—in word and action. All the time—not just when convenient.
Trust me—I struggle with forgiveness all the time. I don’t walk around with some hallo over my head. It’s tough to forgive when someone hurts you—emotionally or especially physically. However, Jesus did not teach us how to pray a prayer that has exceptions, outs, or passes. You want forgiveness, you need to forgive as God forgives you.
Imagine if God holds a grudge for what you do wrong? I would be in the deepest most searing hell that could be found. I screw up all the time in God’s almighty eyes. But he forgives me. And I do my best to forgive others. Tough to do, but a must to do.
Forgive someone today!
