Help or Helped?

There are people in life who always want to help. There are also people who constantly want to be helped. Then, there are most people who just go about life aimlessly neither helping or being helped. Where do you fall?

Jesus, our role model in life, was constantly helping. He not only healed the sick and propped up the helpless, but also gave hope to all. It was not always easy medicine to take but it always was aimed at helping.

If more of us followed Jesus’ example and were helpers, the world would be a vastly different place. Unfortunately, most of us—and I include myself in that camp a lot of the time—don’t even think enough of others to realize they even need help. We may not ask for any help ourselves but we sure don’t serve up any help to others.

Help or helped? Or nothing? Good question to ask yourself as the week looks ahead.

Have a great day—hopefully, helping someone in need! Start with a smile. That’s all someone may need.

Listen, Read, Love, Fight, Believe, Live & Pray

These are the 7 Secrets to Life I have found. Pretty simple. No, make that really simple.

LISTEN to/for God because He is always there calling you. Yes, you. God has a unique, special purpose for you.

READ the Bible because it is our God-given handbook on life. It’s not some old book. It’s a timely book containing answers—if you want them.

LOVE because God commands us to love, and lead a life of love. That’s pretty simply.

FIGHT the devil because it is around every corner whispering doubt about everything—starting with God—in our ears.

BELIEVE that God is in you because He made you. You can do anything if you just believe and don’t doubt. Reread the last Secret to Life if you doubt any of this.

LIVE this life like it’s only a tune-up for your life of eternity. Where you spend that eternity depends on how you live this life. Back to that love thing!

PRAY because it’s simply conversation with God. It works—if you give it a chance.

These 7 Secrets to Life work for me. They are simple and clear. You may find others but these work for me. I hope they work for you.

Have a GREAT week!

First or Last?

Good question to ask yourself! What am I talking about?

He sat down, called the twelve, and said to them, “Whoever wants to be first must be last of all and servant of all.” Mark 9:35

That was Jesus asking. Your answer?

Jesus put Himself last because He is first. He gave up His life for you, me, and every other person who has and will live. Jesus is first because He is the Son of God.

If you truly want to get closer to God you need to move to the back of the line. You need to be last to be first.

OK. What does this practically mean today and tomorrow. You need to think more about others than yourself. It’s that simple. But the thinking part has to play out in actual actions. Jesus healed, put Himself in harms way, and eventually gave up HIs life. We don’t have to go to those extremes. We can walk before we run.

Help someone. Anyhow. A lot of people out there need a lot of help. Give. Anything. Just do something for someone before you do for yourself.

Enjoy the rest of this weekend!

Perfect or Sinner?

In my case this is an easy answer. Sinner. I’m pretty good at being a sinner and pretty bad at being perfect. But that’s life. We are imperfect children of a perfect God.

I think one of the keys to life is acknowledging that you are imperfect—a sinner—but constantly trying to strive for perfection. To repent and not try to sin again. Unfortunately, there are too many people out there who believe that they are perfect in every way.

Perfect or Sinner? Pharisee or Tax Collector? What/who are you? Did I lose you? Read Luke 18:9-14 to answer the question. It’s one of the absolute best Bible verses on living life.

And remember: “All who exalt themselves will be humbled, but all who humble themselves will be exalted.” (Luke 18:14)

Have a wonderful day!!!

Shine Some Light Today on a Dark World!

I am not a doom-and-gloom sayer but look around you—the world is a pretty dark place these days. Bombings, stabbings, shootings, and lots of animosity. It’s a rare day when we aren’t hearing about something bad happening. I am afraid the world is getting darker.

That’s where you and I come in. Today is a day to shed a little light on our dark world. It’s simple. Start with a smile, show some kindness to a stranger, and help someone in need. It’s not difficult. Just spend some time today thinking more about others than yourself. Let that light of God that is in you do some shining today.

You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden; nor does anyone light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on the lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven. Matthew 5:14-16

Smile. Do good. Go out of your way for others. It’s not hard to let your light shine. Don’t keep your light under a basket today. Let it shine! The world needs your light!

Have a GREAT, shining week!

Every Day is a New Day in Christ

No—not more “religious” mumbo-jumbo. Very simply, in a very real way, Jesus was humbly born, lived even more humbly, and in the ultimate act humbly died a terrible death. Why? Simply so your sins—yes, you!—would be forgiven. No matter what you do wrong, acknowledge your faults, give in to Jesus, and you are forgiven. A new day!

Christ suffered for our sins once for all time. He never sinned, but he died for sinners to bring you safely home to God. He suffered physical death, but he was raised to life in the Spirit. 1 Peter‬ ‭3:18‬

Get rid of yesterday and start a new day in Christ. And have a GREAT one!

Golf & Faith: Need to Swing Through!

A week off really helped to clear my head. It may not sound so comparing golf and faith, but I see the comparison between the two clearer than ever.

If you really want to hit a golf ball pure and long, you have to swing through the ball, completing your swing. Stop short of accelerating your swing and not completing it and you are not maximizing how far the ball goes.

The same is true with faith. You have to “swing through” on faith not stopping short but going all the way. For example, Jesus lived and died to deliver His very simple message to love everyone. His command to love is the same command that God the Father gave us but we ignored. It took Jesus to live and die a bloody death to bring the “love” message to life.

Well, you can’t kind of love or sort of love. You have to love completely. Totally and completely. You have to swing through on love. If not, you are not maximizing your faith. You are not a total follower of Jesus. Not a total Christian.

I can go on and on about this but will stop here. Want to succeed at golf and faith? Then simply swing though all the way!

Have a GREAT day! And swing through!!!

If You Won’t Listen to Me, Listen to Tim Tebow!

Christian athlete Tim Tebow has challenged Christians to change the world by loving Jesus and every single person they come in contact with. Read it here.

As I write all the time—LOVE!!! It’s what God commands us to do. The only thing He commands us to do.

Want to change the world? Try Love. If you won’t listen to God, or just me, listen to Tim Tebow. Great message!!!

Are You a Disciple?

If you are a true disciple following Jesus, the test is pretty simple. Do you love? That’s it. Do you love everyone around you? And this is not me talking. It’s Jesus…

By this all will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another. John 13:35

Love. As the song goes, it makes the world go around. And if you are a true disciple of Jesus (it’s called being a “Christian”) you have to love. Hate and you follow someone else (hint: look down). Love and you follow Jesus.

Have a great day. And don’t forget to love!

Less God, More Chaos

It’s pretty simple: The less God there is in this world the more chaos we see around us. As we push God out of our lives bad things happen. The world gets darker and we get lost. Wars, shootings, and downright hatred on the streets. That’s defining our world today because we choose to push God away. When you extinguish a light you are left with darkness. Simple.
