I recently met a guy wearing one of those “WWJD” wrist bands that were all the rage years ago. It made me think not “What Would Jesus Do?” but what is he thinking about Continue reading “What is Jesus thinking?”

Rules for reading the Bible? Here are two…
Rule #1 is that you can’t speed read the Bible. It is designed for contemplation and reflection. You need to let the words sink in, in both your mind and heart. Don’t keep the words you read on the outside. Bring them into you.
Rule #2 is Continue reading “Rules for reading the Bible? Here are two…”
Are you following God’s command to you?
How can we love God and not love each other? If God loves each one of us equally and unconditionally, how can we be expected to do anything else but love each other equally and unconditionally? Think about this the next time you Continue reading “Are you following God’s command to you?”
How can you expect to hear God calling you if you don’t listen?
Calling he is. You just have to listen. You will hear God calling you if you simply take time to listen.
Look around you and you will actually “see” God calling you. Open your eyes to God. If you look for him, you will find God in every person and situation around you. You will find him in the Continue reading “How can you expect to hear God calling you if you don’t listen?”
Jesus Christ!!!
I hate to admit it but this was my favorite “curse” word. Get angry at someone, “Jesus Christ, what’s the matter with you?” Miss a putt, “Jesus Christ, hit the Continue reading “Jesus Christ!!!”
What is God?
I know this sounds like a complex, metaphysical question that has little to do with real life. Nothing could be further from the truth on all accounts. Like everything in life we try to Continue reading “What is God?”
Being Bubba; Being Christian
It was exciting watching Bubba Watson win the Masters. The guy bucks convention left and right — has never had a golf coach, plays with a pink driver, and does goofy YouTube videos. “Being Bubba” is just throwing caution to the wind on the golf course and letting your emotions and the tears fly in public.
What I really love about “being Bubba” is Continue reading “Being Bubba; Being Christian”
What’s unclear about God’s command to love?
“This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you.” John 15:12
Please help me out because I just don’t get it. God gave us ten commandments that can be summarized by two: LOVE him and LOVE others. In LOVE, God sacrificed his only Son for our sins. And the night before he was beaten and hung on a cross — for us! — Jesus gave us a simple commandment to LOVE.

“Love One Another”
As we approach the glory of Easter, we first need to pass through the horror of Jesus sacrificing his life for each one of us. Before he did so, he said something very clear and direct, leaving no room for guessing as to what he meant:
“This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. No one has greater love than this to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.” John 15:12-13
Jesus expects us to love one another as he loves us. His love is unconditional and, to the extreme, sacrificial. Yet, we can’t even get close to this. Continue reading ““Love One Another””
