This life is not all there is. Far from it, this brief life is just the opening act to eternity. Where you spend that eternity depends on how you live this life. Ponder that every start of a new day.
God has promised us eternal life. He doesn’t promise where we will spend eternity—totally fulfilled without any longing for anything or longing for everything we could have had. In this life we have the free will to pick the path to the eternity we want.
This is what he has promised us, eternal life. 1 John 2:25
No matter how long we live this life, it is always just a flicker compared to eternity. We have so much more at stake in this life than we can comprehend. Life is filled with twists and turns, ups and downs but living it right leads to one place—eternity with God. Living it wrongly leads to an eternity of what could have been. There may be fire and brimstone in that eternity, but I think what it’s really about is the pure anguish of bad choices.
“Remember that during your lifetime you received your good things, and Lazarus in like manner evil things; but now he is comforted here, and you are in agony.” Luke 16:25
The good news is every day is a fresh start. God gives us an unlimited number of mulligans. So, take advantage of one today. Commit to a path in this life that leads to the eternity of happiness, peace, and fulfillment. Walk in love today and you’ll be on that path and stay on it as long as each step is a love walk. That’s what God commanded and that’s all we have to do.
Live in love as Christ loved us. Ephesians 5:2
