My New Year’s Resolution: Me or God?

I have a very simple New Year’s resolution for 2016. I am going to answer the question of what my life is about—me or God? Who’s will guides my life—mine or God’s? Am I living just for me or for God? The answers may sound easy but it’s all in the execution. Talk is cheap. Actions speak a thousand words. Me or God? Continue reading “My New Year’s Resolution: Me or God?”

Silence is Especially Golden at Christmas

May you find silence in your life, especially at Christmas.

The Silent Night was a holy night. All was calm, Bethlehem slept. In silence He came to Mary. In silence He comes to us, when we are free of the noise of men and from the desires that tempt our human nature. His wondrous gift to man was given in the stillness of the night. For silence is “the virtue of the strong, the refuge of the weak, the modesty of the proud and the prudence of the wise.” Silence is a preface to prayer; it is the prologue to progress, it is a prerequisite of peace. Be still my soul that I may hear Him in the silence of the Christmas night.

The Lord’s Prayer — Nourish, Forgive & Deliver

Jesus taught us how to pray. Commonly referred to as The Lord’s Prayer, it was Jesus’ gift to us before He gave up His life for us. After praising God, the “ask” in the prayer of God can be summed up in 3 words—Nourish, Forgive, and Deliver. Simple. Continue reading “The Lord’s Prayer — Nourish, Forgive & Deliver”

Let Your Light Shine in a Dark World

Look around you. The world is a dark place. No matter where you turn, evil is having its day. There is only one way to lighten a dark world—Let your light shine. Don’t listen to me. Jesus said it best:

“In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” Matthew 5:16

Just before he said that, Jesus said: Continue reading “Let Your Light Shine in a Dark World”

Make Every Day Advent

We look at Advent especially at this time of year as a celebration at Christmas of the birth of Christ. Going forward, I am trying to make every day Advent by celebrating Jesus Christ in my life. Not some “holy roller” type of celebration but just a nod every day that I want, and need, Jesus in my life. I have found the hard way that life only has meaning when Jesus is in it. When he’s in my life there is light. When I shut Jesus out of my life it gets pretty dark.

That’s all for today. An Advent day. Make it a GREAT one!

God’s Recipe: Squeeze Out the Bitterness

With the holidays upon us, everyone is following some type of family or book recipe in preparing meals. God’s recipe is pretty simply: Squeeze out any bitterness in your life. And if you follow God’s recipe to the letter, it means squeeze out every last drop of bitterness. Failure to follow that and the life you are cooking up will flop. Big time! Make Every Day a Thanksgiving Day!

In preparation for Thanksgiving Day, I repeat this post from last year…

Every day should be a day of thanks giving! Regardless of your circumstances, we all share a common bond of needing to give thanks. Jesus Christ walked among us to show us the way to eternity with God. He saved each one of us personally by cleaning the slate on our sins—past, present, and future. Every day when we fall or jump out of bed we should be on our knees giving thanks to God! Continue reading “Make Every Day a Thanksgiving Day!”

As Paris Mourns, God Weeps

Imagine being God and looking down at what has unfolded in Paris. In the name of some “god” (and I mean with a small “g”), a band of brutal, savage killers set the world on edge. If you are God you can only be shaking your head, asking yourself what you have done, and weeping as Paris mourns. Fortunately, none of us are God. Continue reading “As Paris Mourns, God Weeps”

Paris, Evil & God

My heart goes out to the people of Paris as they try to recover from the horrific, evil attacks of 11/13. I pray that they somehow rally and unite against the darkness that has fallen on the city of lights. This is a time for prayer, especially for the victims and their families, but also a time to embrace God to help us stop the evil that is darkening the world.

Evil men and impostors will proceed from bad to worse, deceiving and being deceived.
2 Timothy 3:13

As we let God slip out of our lives, evil is winning. This is a time to find God again in our lives and let His light shine on the darkness. There will be repercussions for what happened in Paris yesterday, and an escalation of the wars (and I mean plural “wars”) in the Middle East. However, this starts and ends with God in our lives. And the sooner we get that into our heads, and that each of us has a role to play, the sooner we will start rolling back the evil tide. And, yes, it is that very simple!

Vive la France! May God be with you—and all of us!
