Love. As the song goes, it makes the world go around. And if you are a true disciple of Jesus (it’s called being a “Christian”) you have to love. Hate and you follow someone else (hint: look down). Love and you follow Jesus.

There is a lifetime of emotions in Jesus’ last 24 hours or so on this earth. He agonized in the garden about bearing the weight of the world. He felt intense physical pain as he was beaten. He was mocked and humiliated. He needed help carrying His cross. And he died. Torment, pain, humiliation, helplessness, and death. We may not feel all these emotions in our lives but I bet that most of us do at some time or another. Certainly, it’s a 100% lock that we will all eventually face death. It’s pretty simple: The less God there is in this world the more chaos we see around us. As we push God out of our lives bad things happen. The world gets darker and we get lost. Substitute the word “sword” with “gun.” Jesus was pretty clear in what He said. And he’s speaking to us as we are perishing from guns.

John said it best and very simply—God is love. (1 John 4:8). It could not be simpler. God is pure love—the essence of what love is. There is a reason why we find so little love in the world today.
