We all have our respective paths to travel. Some of us will make it to our desired destination, whether the Promised Land, World Series, chairman of the board or parent. Some of us will come up short. But all of us have a part to play in God’s mysterious master plan and should, as Ernie Banks has taught us, make the most of our journey along the way. What is Jesus Saying Today?
He is most likely speechless and saying nothing. Just shaking his head in disbelief. Ray Rise, Adrian Peterson, and the violence mess in the NFL. ISIS/ISIL, whatever you want to call it, and public beheadings simply to get attention. Rampant rapes in India, with women treated like dirt. The Catholic Church and the endless pedophile mess. It goes on and on, all over the world. Forget WWJD (What Would Jesus Do). It’s all about WWJND (What Would Jesus Not Do). Because WWJND is the way this world is spinning. Remembering 9/11
I really can’t say it any better than this…
O God of love, compassion, and healing. We ask you in your goodness to give eternal light and peace to all who died here the heroic first-responders: our fire fighters, police officers, emergency service workers, and Port Authority personnel, along with all the innocent men and women who were victims of this tragedy simply because their work or service brought them here on September 11, 2001. Pope Benedict XI, Prayer at Ground Zero, New York, April 20, 2008
All Violence, Domestic and Other, is Against the Nature of God
I am shocked and disgusted by Ray Rice, a powerful NFL football player, slugging his then finance and knocking her cold. Domestic violence is a real cancer that needs to be stopped. But violence of any type also needs to be stopped. In case anyone forgets, “God is love.” (1 John 4:16) That doesn’t mean selective “love.” It means 100% pure love at its core. God is not only love but is defined as love. So, violence of any type, domestic or other, is against the very nature of God. Prayers Needed!!!
We all need prayers for others and ourselves, so I usually don’t ask for them. However, a friend and work teammate has had a major stroke. So, I am asking for prayers for Bo. He has an incredibly strong faith and is one of those rare people who truly cares more about others than himself. He’s always leading a prayer meeting or call for someone. Now Bo needs the prayers!
Appreciate any prayers for Bo! Thanks!
The Lord will protect him and preserve his life; he will bless him in the land and not surrender him to the desire of his foes. The Lord will sustain him on his sickbed and restore him from his bed of illness. Psalm 41:2-3
Gotta Love Tim Tebow!
We need more Tim Tebows in this world. I’m sure he’s not a saint—we all have our demons—but he seems to do the right thing. In this case, bringing some joy to a young woman who has struggled with a terrible disease since she was 15. When some NFL owner gets the courage, and wisdom, to put Tim Tebow on his team, that team will win—just like every other team Tim Tebow has played on since pony league. In the meantime, it’s great to see the joy Tim Tebow spreads. Check it out here.
Boby or Soul?
You can live by your body or your soul. It’s that simple. Live with your body ruling and bodily pleasures rule. Live by your soul ruling and you live to a higher cause, not just on this earth but in the next, better life to come. Because we all have free will, the choice is yours. Made in the Image of God
Love quotes or thoughts that you can carry around and really think about. Here’s one for today:
“Being made in the image of God invests us with a portable spirituality center. No matter where we go, so long as we carry this core identity with us, we remain spiritually impervious to the ups and downs of external circumstances.” Naomi H. Rosenblatt and Joshua Horwitz, Wrestling with Angels
As you think about this, remember that God is defined as love. He is love. So being made in the image and likeness of God means you are love—or, should be love.
Have a GREAT day knowing that God made you. He is in you!
Discipline
That’s my word coming off of vacation. I know—sounds strange because vacation is time we usually throw any discipline to the wind. We do what we want, eat everything in sight, and generally just let go. I did exactly that, within reason, but it made me think that I need more discipline in life (and in my golf game!). In fact, one of the problems with today’s world is that discipline is a forgotten concept. No, I’m not trying to be a drag—just make the world a better place, starting with me. On Golf and God
This is my annual musings on golf and God. No, this is not irreverent. I just try to look at life and relate everything back to God, because everything around us comes from God. And that includes the game of golf. Continue reading “On Golf and God”
