Time to Die

You read it right—it’s time to die. Not in the way you are thinking but dying to Jesus. He died for us. We need to die to him. What does this mumbo-jumbo mean in a practical sense? It simply means if you are going to be a true Christian—in action, not just title—you need to leave “you” behind and start focusing on others. That’s what Jesus did and if you are going to really be a follower you need to follow Jesus’ lead. It’s that simple. Continue reading “Time to Die”

Martha, Martha…

Picture you have invited Jesus into your home. Are you Martha who was focused on getting the meal ready and associated chores or are you sister Mary who sat at Jesus’ feet and listened? Step back for a minute and really think about this because it has so much to say about your life—and how you are living it. It’s a virtual mirror on life! Continue reading “Martha, Martha…”

Jesus in Disbelief!!!

Imagine looking down on this world. There is violence across the globe and racial tensions everywhere you turn in the US. Slurs and shootings have dominated the news this week. Sure, we have made progress since Selma but how much have we really made? Jesus has to be looking at this and thinking, “This is what I gave my life for? Doesn’t anyone remember my last command to LOVE?” Continue reading “Jesus in Disbelief!!!”

What Does the Bible Answer?

Everything! And I mean EVERYTHING! Yes, as absurd as it may sound, every answer to every question you have about life will come out of reading the Bible. Look closer at what I just wrote. Every question you have about life is not necessarily in the Bible but will come out of you reading the Bible. The answers come from you! What? Continue reading “What Does the Bible Answer?”

Sunday or Everyday God?

I’ll put it right out there for all—my New Year’s resolution is to make God every day, not just Sundays. Check that; make God an every second God, not just a God for every day. What do I mean? For many Christians, God is a Sunday God. He stays in that place of worship Sunday, and just maybe we let God live with us for the rest of the day. But come Monday, and the “real” world revs up for another week, we leave God behind. Continue reading “Sunday or Everyday God?”

Discipline

That’s my word coming off of vacation. I know—sounds strange because vacation is time we usually throw any discipline to the wind. We do what we want, eat everything in sight, and generally just let go. I did exactly that, within reason, but it made me think that I need more discipline in life (and in my golf game!). In fact, one of the problems with today’s world is that discipline is a forgotten concept. No, I’m not trying to be a drag—just make the world a better place, starting with me. Continue reading “Discipline”

This is the Day…

This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it (Psalm 114:24). I’m remembered once again on this beautiful summer day that a) the Lord has made it; b) it is totally different and unique; and c) it will be one day off our lives when it is over. So, enjoy today! No matter what you are doing enjoy today. I am rushing around like crazy to go on vacation, have tons of work to finish, and have to drive 3 hours to be deposed. Not fun! But I intend to enjoy today. It is truly special.

We all have good and bad days. As I related, my day today will not be fun. But God created it not for us to wish the day away. He wants us to bask in it. And Jesus “came that they [us] may have life, and have it abundantly.” (John 10:10). So, don’t let Jesus’ sacrifice go for naught. Enjoy today!

I’m off for a week but will likely post here and there.

Enjoy!!!

Do Not Harden Your Heart

The more problems I have with friends and family lately the more this verse pops up:

Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion. Hebrews 3:8

It’s so easy to turn inward and only think of yourself as being right. The result is that you harden your heart. And when your heart gets hard it turns you into one hard and calloused person.  Continue reading “Do Not Harden Your Heart”

Relax and Let God Do the Driving

There are times, especially when things aren’t going well, when we tense up. We push too hard. We try to fit square pegs in our lives into round circles. We force. That’s the time to do the opposite. Relax. Sit back. Let go and let God into your life. Let God do the driving. Continue reading “Relax and Let God Do the Driving”
