Discipline

That’s my word coming off of vacation. I know—sounds strange because vacation is time we usually throw any discipline to the wind. We do what we want, eat everything in sight, and generally just let go. I did exactly that, within reason, but it made me think that I need more discipline in life (and in my golf game!). In fact, one of the problems with today’s world is that discipline is a forgotten concept. No, I’m not trying to be a drag—just make the world a better place, starting with me. This is the Day…

This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it (Psalm 114:24). I’m remembered once again on this beautiful summer day that a) the Lord has made it; b) it is totally different and unique; and c) it will be one day off our lives when it is over. So, enjoy today! No matter what you are doing enjoy today. I am rushing around like crazy to go on vacation, have tons of work to finish, and have to drive 3 hours to be deposed. Not fun! But I intend to enjoy today. It is truly special.

We all have good and bad days. As I related, my day today will not be fun. But God created it not for us to wish the day away. He wants us to bask in it. And Jesus “came that they [us] may have life, and have it abundantly.” (John 10:10). So, don’t let Jesus’ sacrifice go for naught. Enjoy today!

I’m off for a week but will likely post here and there.

Enjoy!!!

Do Not Harden Your Heart

The more problems I have with friends and family lately the more this verse pops up:

Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion. Hebrews 3:8

It’s so easy to turn inward and only think of yourself as being right. The result is that you harden your heart. And when your heart gets hard it turns you into one hard and calloused person.  Continue reading “Do Not Harden Your Heart”

Relax and Let God Do the Driving

There are times, especially when things aren’t going well, when we tense up. We push too hard. We try to fit square pegs in our lives into round circles. We force. That’s the time to do the opposite. Relax. Sit back. Let go and let God into your life. Let God do the driving. Continue reading “Relax and Let God Do the Driving”

Tough to Forgive When You Hurt!

When you hurt and/or are angry it’s tough to forgive. But that’s just the point. If forgiving was easy it would not be forgiving. To truly forgive you have to step outside of your own skin. You have to leave the the human baggage aside and connect your spirit (not emotions) with God. Take it from me—not easy!!!

Are You Christian? Here’s the Acid Test.

LOVE!!! If you walk in love and believe that Jesus Christ is your Savior, you are Christian. Note the first criteria that you must walk in love. It’s not sufficient that you simply believe in Jesus. There are a lot of so called “christians” (intentional little “c”) out there who walk in anything but love. Unfortunately, they are not real Christians.  Continue reading “Are You Christian? God Means Life to Be So Very, Very Simple!

As I have said/written thousands of times, God means life to be so very simple. We are the ones who complicate it. Like a closet or basement, we accumulate “junk” that we don’t use but that crowds out useful living space. Rather than periodically go through our closets and throw out—or better yet, donate—what we don’t use we accumulate stuff. Well, that’s exactly what we do in our minds. What should be so simple we complicate. Continue reading “God Means Life to Be So Very, Very Simple!”

Let Jesus In!

I learned this week that it’s not enough to believe in Jesus and follow his command to LOVE. You have to actively let Jesus into your life. He’s always a heartbeat away but you have to bring him into your heart. No religious mumbo-jumbo; just practical advice on how to live life to the fullest and conquer any obstacles. Continue reading “Let Jesus In!”

Are You Taking the Nails Out of the Cross or Hammering Them Back In?

You and I put Jesus on the cross. We had a hand in each nail strike. That’s because Jesus hung on that bloody cross to save us. Every day we are either taking the nails out to get Jesus off our personal cross or hammering them back in. This week I did some hammering as I let the noise of the world overwhelm me.
